Madame Tussauds is a famous wax museum opened in 1835 in London by Marie Tussaud. Marie was born in 1761 in Strasbourg. Marie learned to make wax figures from Philippe Curtius. In 1777, she created her first figure — Voltaire. After Curtius died in 1794, the collection passed to Marie. In 1835, she opened an exhibition on Baker Street. Today the museum is located on Marylebone Road near Regent’s Park. There are branches in 23 cities, including New York, Berlin, Hong Kong, and Las Vegas. The museum has more than a thousand wax figures. It includes kings, politicians, actors, and athletes. Among them are Queen Elizabeth II, Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Beyoncé, and Freddie Mercury. There is a “Chamber of Horrors” with criminals and villains like Jack the Ripper. The museum has themed halls about politics, film, and celebrities. Visitors can take photos with the figures. Some figures can move and make sounds. There is a 4D show for children. There is also a mini ride around London inside the museum. Each figure is made by about 20 artists.
